The University of Tasmania Ultimate Frisbee Club has been keeping Ultimate alive in Hobart since the early 1990s (see history for more details). They used to have their own web site, but it seems to have disappeared completely now! This is one of the longest running University Ultimate Frisbee clubs in the country, and supplies fields, discs, cones and bibs for a number of regular ultimate games in Hobart, especially the local pick-up or social games, and also supported the early leagues such as the (now superseded) K-league and the (somewhat sporadic) CSIRO/Uni Challenge. The club also helps organise the Two-Hat Ultimate Frisbee Tournament in conjunction with the TUA. One day, there may even be a University of Tasmania team at the Australian Universities Championships!
To play in the local pick-up games, you are supposed to be a member of the club. Have a chat to Shavawn if you'd like to join; she can sign you up in the University of Tasmania Ultimate Frisbee Club - $6.00 for Uni staff or students. Others may need to join the Sports Union or the AFDA for insurance purposes. You are not covered by University medical insurance in these games if you are not a member of the Tasmanian University Union.
The joint presidents of the club in 2000 were Denny Liggins and Robin Fleming. The club president in 2001 was either Shavawn Donoghue or maybe Dene Carroll. In 2002, the club president was Shavawn Donoghue and the treasurer Garry Davidson, as he had been since the beginning of time, or so it seemed. In 2003, the club treasurer changed (Shock, Horror!) and is now Shavawn and the club president is Cari Deyell.
The club runs an O-Week stall in March and can always do with volunteers to help run this. Feel free to contact Shavawn if you can help out.
