Two-Hat VIII TD's report

The Spirit of the Hat

The Scene

This was easily the most bizarre weather for a Two-Hat - at least the ones I have attended. The week before the Two-Hat saw some of the hottest days in Hobart, with bush fires raging across the state. Then on Friday night, it all changed. Hail, snow on the mountain and buckets and buckets of rain.

The wind held though - and the rain was sporadic and a bit of water didn't stop the Two-Hat.

Almost... got... it...

But First: The Golf!

The events started on the Friday night, with a great turnout for golf. Skirts and non-skirts hit the course at St David's Park, and the contest was tough. Felix Kennedy (-2) took out the non-skirts, while Shavawn Donoghue (+8) had all the honours in the skirts. Thanks to Jeff Dunn and Jemery Day for organising the evening!

Results and Final

So far we have not been able to beat 5 teams at a Tassie Two-Hat, and this year was not able to break that. Still, with a record equalling 48 players, we had good numbers. Players turned up bright and early for the 9:00 AM start. 4 Games were played, broken up by trips to the coffee vendor (thanks Ash!) then after a classic Frisbee lunch the last game before the semi finals was played.

That should be mine!
Upside down!

The games were tight, with each team losing at least once and winning at least once (John Hempel broke his Two Hat losing dry spell at last). Ranking the teams going into the finals was tricky - we had to go to spirit score to separate Superba and Once you go black you can't go back.

The PANTS of BLINDING! Kath vs Kath

In the end, the line up to the semi finals was as follows: Suberba vs The Flying Dutchmen, and Trevor vs Aquasnot. With much cheering and heckling from the sideline, Superba then took out Trevor in the final to win the day 11-5. They also took out the spirit score as well. Full results and table are available (from the Round Robin games only).

Awards

Pat Dunne took away most of the individual awards, winning Play of the Day and First Registered. Cathy Bowker is inaugurated into the Ten Hat Hall of Fame.

Party

The party was once again held at the Derwent City Bowls Club, where pizza and beer helped the players wind down. Joe Boyer and Felix Kennedy entertained everyone with a quiz night - and proved that one of the 12 eggs was actually raw!
