Autumn League in 2008 was moved back indoors for the first time since 2004 (Winter league is always played as an indoor league).
Autumn League ran on Sunday afternoons from 4-6pm from May 4 to June 15, with the finals on June 22 from 4:30-6:30pm, at Aurora Sports Stadium, Creek Road, New Town. These courts gave us much more room than the small courts at Hobart College. With the new improved venue, registration fees will have to increase slightly to cover the costs of hiring these facilities. Games were played as two 25 minute games per week either between 4 and 5 pm, or 5 and 6 pm on any given week.
There was one division in this league, with a maximum of 8 teams with 7 players per team (4 players on the field at any one time).

The rules for the Hobart Indoor Leagues are based on the WFDF rules. The League Organiser takes the position of the TD under those rules. Check the latest local indoor rules here.

Thanks to everyone who came along to the Autumn League finals. For those of you who weren't there, the final match came to an abrupt end when one of the 2g players (Andrew Wong) suffered a serious ankle injury and had to be taken to hospital for surgery. I am sure that I speak for everyone when I say that our thoughts go out to Andrew at this time and that we wish him a speedy recovery.
Here's how the finals panned out:
In the first preliminary final, 3rd-placed Third Wheel employed a tight zone defense to try and shut down the pace of second-placed Six-Oh!. The defensive strategy made for a very tight tussle, but Six-Oh! proved too strong and powered on to win 10-6.
The second preliminary final saw ladder leaders On Toast take on 4th-placed 2g. In a tightly-fought contest, 2g scored an upset win, taking out the match 11-9.
Samurai forfeited their match against Still the Ones when they were unable to meet the minimum gender requirements at the start of play. Still the Ones therefore took seventh spot by forfeit. The two teams played a scratch match, which Samurai won 7-6.
In the battle for fifth place, Scoober Divers pulled a surprise move by recruiting a sprightly John McEnroe, who helped them to a 16-12 victory over Uephota.
Due to a double booking by the Auruora stadium staff, the regular courts were unavailable for our use last night. This led to an indoor league first, with the battle for third place taking place outdoors under lights in a freezing gale. At the end of full-time, Third Wheel were one point in front of On Toast. It was good to see a return to traditional Autumn league finals values, with players freezing on the sidelines due to the lousy weather... Thanks to the On Toast and Third Wheel players for being involved in the world's first wind-affected outdoor indoor night final.
The final between Six-Oh! and 2g was an incredibly tight, low scoring tussle, with the scored locked at 6-6 at the 22 minute mark, when Andrew suffered his injury. After the paramedics and Andrew departed the scene, the Autumn league final was declared a tie between Six-Oh! and 2g.

League Champions:2g and Six-Oh! (tie)
