Potential candidates:

President –Jemery “Papa Smurf” Day

Vice-Pres – Jeff “Stats-man” Dunn

Treasurer – Shavawn “Sticky Fingers” Donoghue

positions still vacant:

Youth Development Coordinator

Women’s Development Team (will be taken by all with XX chromosomes)

IT Guru

Robin will available to take on a position in 18 months. Committee will ask if Mamoru is interested in a role. The IGM will be advertised 2 weeks in advance on the TasFDA website, Tas-ultimate group, and Office of Sport and Rec newsletter. Prior to the meeting, the committee needs to approve the constitution and elect office bearers.

The IGM will be held on Monday, 17 March at 7.30pm (after league finals)

BRUNY ISLAND TOURNI UPDATE

Shavawn is getting organised. Someone mentioned that she needs to contact the shire to make sure we can use the beach. Other considerations include first aid and emergency treatment (ie. what if there is a serious injury?) and a disc golf course. Dan and Mamoru will explore the options and a round of golf will probably happen on the Saturday morning during registration.

AUTUMN/WINTER LEAGUE COORDINATOR

The committee decided that there will one extended indoor winter league during the damp dark months of the year. The league will be at Hobart College again, possibly using both courts depending on the number of teams. Madeleine ‘Mad-Dog” Cahill and Cari “Crazy Canuck” Deyell have volunteered to be league coordinators.

SUMMER LEAGUE PROGRESS

Leslie reported that the league is into week 5 with lots of players participating. Most games are 7-a-side. However, there is also a lot of aggression and rough playing on the field and the TUA is trying to emphasise with all players the non-contact nature of the game. Leslie will be putting together a few notes for all new players to the league that will consist of 10 basic rules of ultimate and a few other things about Spirit, Lurve and Frisbeetarianism.

Most players have paid up except for Dan. The cones to set up fields were stolen from the HCC changeroom last week. Leslie has yet to follow this up with Hobart City Council and other field users. Bad karma.

WOMENS DEVELOPMENT TEAM

The WDT consists of Madeleine, Cari, Shavawn and Leslie, basically the more experienced women players in Hobart. The last women’s frisbee skills session was successful, although small and the WDT will be promoting the next session more widely to attract more women. Sunday, 30 March has been tentatively set as the next women’s session and will be similar to the last one with a couple hours of drills and playing and a BBQ to follow.

NATIONALS

The Tassie Tiggers management team reported that there were 11 definite players and 3 maybe players. T-shirts are getting organised. Defence captain Tom “Big T” Caldwell will talk to all players to recommend what everyone should work on, and discuss what they expect from training and the tourni.

SPIRIT SCORES –VUL GUIDELINES

The committee approved the motion to adapt the Vancouver Ultimate League’s spirit guidelines. They will come into effect at the Beach Tourni. Spirit will be scored out of 7.

TASSIE DISCS

The minimum order is 100 discs, each box fits 72 so the TUA will probably order 2 boxes or 144 discs. Dan will investigate the costs and logistics of Tassie discs and post a message to Tas-Ultimate advertising a design contest. The design needs to have “Tasmania, Australia” somewhere on it and be ‘timeless’.

The TUA will need around $2000 of start up capital in order to finance the order. Will most likely piggy back an order onto the Melbourne Hat order and Dan will liaise with Cath Bowker (Melb. TD) about this.

2HAT DISC GOLF

Dan lurves disc golf. After the enjoyment of the Melbourne Hat disc golf classic, there was discussion about organising a pre 2Hat disc golf classic. Waterworks Park is a possible location. The committee will discuss this at a later date.

GOVERNMENT FUNDING

Once the TUA is registered, we will be able to seek funding and apply for grants.

O-WEEK

Is on Wednesday, 26 February from 11-2pm. Shavawn is looking after the stall and needs volunteers to help out. Tom is planning something fabulous for the day.

The deal will be sign up for the Uni club and come to the Bruny Island Beach Tourni for FREE! (after they pay their $10 for AFDA).

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting will be the IGM on Monday, 17 March at 7.30pm at Sandown/beach BBQ area in Lower Sandy Bay.
