December

December 16 Registration is now open for the Summer Social League , starting with a free Learn to Play session on January 11 and going through until March 29 2010. Full details on this league are available on the Summer League page, including the details on who is eligible to win a free frisbee.
December 15 The finals have been played and Spring league is now over. In the social beginners division, congratulations go to joint spirit winners Pure and Wobblies, league winners Wobblies and to award winners: Masni Bennett (best recruiter); Stefanie Cesile and Elvin Lea (most improved); and Alex de Vries (guts in the final). In the social intermediate division, congratulations go to spirit winners Parma, league winners Rockette and to award winners: Jessie Bresnehan and Ashley Morphet (most improved); Jeff Steadman (style in final) and Chris Mrzyk (guts in the final). Full results (including final spirit rankings and scores) are now available on the Spring League 2009 history page. Results of all previous leagues can be found via links on the League history page. Thanks to Dave Cooke for running this league (with help from Steve Wright in the first few weeks). Meanwhile, don't forget to register for for Summer League soon - late fees kick in if you register (or pay) after January 11.
December 14 Congratulations to ex-Tasmanian Mani Thom who was on the winning team at this years Melbourne Hat tournament on the weekend.
December 7 Preliminary registration for the Summer Social League , starting in January and going through until March 2010, is now open. More details on this league will be available soon - but expect a similar structure to spring league, with two divisions and games on Monday evenings.
December 5 The sixth week of games of the Spring Social League have been played, including the first week of finals for the social intermediate division. In this division, Rockette beat Salmonella 13-9 the qualifying final, so both of these teams go through to the qualifying final against the winners of the preliminary finals, half-a-bee and Parma, while the losers of the preliminary finals, Jeremy's Socks and Wobblies will playoff for 5th place. In the social beginners division, Red Rum ended Wobblies run of victories with a 5-5 draw, but even this was not enough to sneak up into 2nd place on the social beginner league table. The Social beginner finals will see Red Rum play Pure for 3rd place and the grand final between Wobblies and Jazz. Check the schedule for game times.

November

November 30 The fifth week of games of the Spring Social League have been played, which completes the minor round for the social intermediate division, with one more round of minor round games for the social beginner division. Rockette led the social intermediate league table all season with 5 straight wins, and in the last week Salmonella snuck ahead of Wobblies into second place, giving Salmonella automatic entry into the semi-finals. The schedule for the first week of social intermediate finals is available here. Check back soon for the schedule for the final week. Wobblies still lead Jazz in the social beginner league table.
November 18 The fourth week of games of the Spring Social League have been played. Full game schedules are now available for the social intermediate and social beginner divisions. Full team lists should be available soon. Rockette have maintained their early season lead over Wobblies in the social intermediate league table and, also with an unbeaten run, Wobblies lead Jazz in the social beginner league table. Note that registrations have now closed for both divisions.
November 10 The innovative HIKQ-Cup which was to be played fortnightly from November 4 to December 13 on Sundays at 4pm at Sandown Park has morphed into a pickup game instead. Players who have paid their fees will receive a full refund. However, this pickup game will be a good introduction for players who want to play at the Southern Australian Ultimate Championships, most likely to be held in Hobart in March 2010, a qualifying tournament for open and women's teams which want to qualify for the Australian Ultimate Championships to be held in Adelaide in April 2010.

October

October 30 The first week of games of the Spring Social League have been played. Initial team lists and game schedule are available for the social intermediate division. Rockette have taken the early lead over Wobblies in the league table. Teams lists, game schedule and results for the social beginner division will come soon. Note that registrations have now closed for the 6 team social intermediate division (now being played from 6-7:30 time slot). The 4 team social beginner division is being played from 7:30-8:30 under lights and places are limited.
October 20 Registration is now open for the HIKQ-Cup to be played fortnightly from November 4 to December 13 on Sundays at 4pm at Sandown Park. Talk to Joe Boyer if you think you have the playing skills and sufficient tactical knowledge to play this 4 week high level league with a difference or simply register on the HIKQ-Cup page. If you've just played the 2009 Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships or have played TUC (the Tasmanian Ultimate Championship) over the winter season, or are looking for something that is a step up from Division 1 from last season's Spring/Summer leagues, then HIKQ-Cup is just what you are after. This league will be a good introduction for players who want to play at the Southern Australian Ultimate Championships, most likely to be held in Hobart in March 2010, a qualifying tournament for open and women's teams which want to qualify for the Australian Ultimate Championships to be held in Adelaide in April 2010.
October 19 Late registration is still open for Spring League, which will run on Monday evenings from 6.00 - 8.30pm starting Monday October 26th at Sandown Park. Check out the Spring League web page for all the details and for a link to the registration page. Registration now costs $40 unless you are a brand new player.
October 18 Congratulations to Two-Hat spirit winners Movable Nest and tournament winners Flaming Galahs who took the major prizes at the eleventh Tasmanian Two-Hat. Congratulations also to Lester Sualog for winning the party, Dan Wilkins and Ken Suber for taking out the skirts and non-skirts divisions of the Philip Redneck Ruddock Throw Them Overboard Disc Golf Classic, John Hempel for winning the first registered prize and Will Christopherson for taking out the Play of the Day award, by arriving 24 hours early for his flight out of Hobart. Thanks to TD Dave Wilson and his band of volunteers for putting on a very well run tournament. Stay tuned for a full report soon.
October 12 Congratulations to TD Shavawn Donoghue and her team of volunteers for running a fantastic 2009 Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships, the first National Ultimate tournament to be held in Tasmania for 20 years. Congratulations also to Shannon Trenwith for winning the female MVP award, and Tasmanian teams Them Apples (15th) and Runamok (18th), both teams finishing well above their seedings. September 27 Registration is now open for Spring League, which will run on Monday evenings from 6.00 - 8.30pm from October 26th at Sandown Park, with finals on Monday December 7th. There will be a free come and try session on Monday October 19th. Check out the Spring League web page for all the details and for a link to the registration page. Registration costs a maximum of $20 if you register and pay by October 19.
September 20 The next registration deadline for the Tasmanian Two-Hat XI is October 2. All registrations completed (including full payment of registration fees) between September 12 and October 2 will cost $100. Further, a player cap is likely to be imposed very soon, so the later you leave it to register, the more likely you are to end up on a waiting list! If you want to play this tournament, register (and pay) now! This year the Two-Hat will be held over two days (Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th October).
September 18 The finals have been played and Winter league is now over. Congratulations to spirit winners Syphilis, league winners Happy Spinnifex and to award winners Andrew Cole (style in the final), David Wilson (guts in the final) and best recruiters Grady Cowley and Kieren Blake. If you want to play this tournament, register (and pay) now! This year the Two-Hat will be held over two days (Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th October).
September 9 The minor round games of the Winter Indoor League have been completed with little change in the league table. The semi-finals and wooden spoon playoff start at 4pm on Sunday September 13, the final at 5pm, a barbecue starts from around 5:30 and presentations from around 6:15. Remember each team is required to bring along a salad to share.
September 7 Congratulations to spirit winners HUC and 2009 Winter TUC champions Percy the Steam Machine (who defeated Snow Dump 12-11 in the grand final). Thanks to John Kristensen for running this season of the Tasmanian Ultimate Championships (TUC).
September 1 The sixth week of games of the Winter Indoor League have been played. White Trash are now entrenched at the top of the league table with 12 straight wins. Happy Spinnifex are holding on to 2nd position from Blade steak. The next round (the last round before the finals) starts at 4:30pm and goes through to 6:30pm with three shorter games, with the finals returning to the 4-6pm time slot and only two games on Sunday September 13.

August

August 31 The minor round games of the Tasmanian Ultimate Championships (TUC) at the Rugby Field have now been completed and field closures once again see games postponed. The final will be played on Monday September 7 (if the fields are open) featuring Percy the Steam Machine vs Snow Dump in the Trophy Final and HUC vs Bread in the wooden spoon playoff. The final TUC league table, at the completion of the minor rounds, is now available.
August 27 Congratulations to Them Apples who defeated Runamok (or is it Runner Muck) last night in very trying conditions at the Tasmanian qualifier/seeding game for the Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships. Them Apples will be the top seeded team at this tournament - out of all the Tasmanian teams anyway.
August 20 The fourth week of games of the Winter Indoor League have been played. White Trash maintain their position at the top of the league table with 8 straight wins. Happy Spinnifex continue to move up the table, taking 2nd position from Blade steak.
August 18 The last minor round of the Tasmanian Ultimate Championships (TUC) at the Rugby Field has been postponed (once again) due to field closures. Talk to John Kristensen if you want to get on the TUC mailing list. The full TUC league table is now available.
August 10 The third week of games of the Winter Indoor League have been played. With 6 straight wins, White Trash maintain their position at the top of the league table with Blade steak still in second position. The big mover of the week was Happy Spinnifex who moved from the bottom of the ladder to 3rd place.
August 7 Registration for the Tasmanian Two-Hat XI is now open. This year the Two-Hat will be held over two days (Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th October). Check out the Two-Hat page for more information, and details on how to register. Due to unprecedented numbers of ultimate players expected from other lands in Tasmania in October, a numbers cap may be applied to the Two-Hat this year. If you want to guarantee your place, register now. Registration and full payment of your fees will secure your place. Go on do it now - you know you want to!
August 7 The second week of games of the Winter Indoor League have been played. Updated team lists and an initial game schedule are now available. White Trash have taken the early lead over Blade steak in the league table with 4 straight wins. The tussle for places is at the bottom end of the table where 4 teams, all with one win each, are separated by only 1 point.

July 26 The first week of games of the Winter League 2009 start today indoors at Aurora Stadium. Preliminary team lists are now available.
July 22 The Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships web site is now live. Thanks to Masni Bennett and John Kristensen for their work on this site. Check this web site regularly for all news and updates on this tournament. Remember that this is the first National Ultimate tournament to be held in Tasmania for 20 years.
July 21 Congratulations to Ash Martens and the Crocs, the Australian ultimate team at the World Games in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, who managed to reverse their round robin loss to Canada and win the bronze medal in the playoff for 3rd place today. The Crocs only had two losses in the tournament, to the USA and Canada. Australia was the only team to beat Japan in the round robin, with a very tight 13-12 victory. Unfortunately, this win wasn't enough for the Crocs to qualify for the gold medal playoff game (where the USA reversed their round robin loss to Japan). The Crocs also won the coveted Spirit Prize. July 17 Registration is still open for Winter League 2009, which will run indoors from July 26 to September 13 at Aurora Sports Stadium. Talk to league organisers Alysia or Charlie Prevost if you want more info on this league and register today if you want to avoid the late registration fees! It looks like there will be six teams for this league.
July 16 Good luck to Ash Martens who is currently in Kaohsiung, Taiwan about to play ultimate for the Australian team at the World Games in this 6 team tournament. See Piers Truter's Twitter site, the AFDA's Trash talk or the World Games Live streaming site for regular updates on the team's progress.

July 7 Thanks to Stew for running Hobart's first indoor tourney, the inaugural halfWIT, on Sunday July 5 and congratulations to SWAT for doing the double, winning both spirit and the tourney. Congratulations also to prize winners Chris "Dennehy" Mrzyk for his 2 Callahans during the day, Joe and Beans for making the most effort to dress up and to Felix for his downfield huck to no one! Thanks also to Joe, Shavawn and JK for their help in the leadup to the games, and to Jules for helping Stew figure out the bbq. An extra huge thanks to Iron Chef BBQ, Jeff Dunn who came in especially to run the bbq during the finals, despite the freezing cold day and him not actually playing himself.

June 8 The sixth week of games have been played in Autumn League 2009 with status quo on the league table. Are the final positions set already??
June 3 Registration is now open for the inaugural halfWIT, the half-yearly Winter Indoor Tournament, which is a one day indoor Ultimate tournament to be held on Sunday July 5. Register now if you want to make sure you get a spot - or by June 29 if you want to avoid paying late registration fees. Talk to TD Stew Wilde if you want more details.
June 1 The fifth week of games have been played in Autumn League 2009. The table is slightly clearer after this round as all teams have now played the same number of games. Noir Flu regain their spot at the top of the league table but the battle for 3rd and 4th place has tightened after two tied matches involving 3rd placed Tasmanian Ultimate Front.
June 1 The Tasmanian Ultimate Championships (TUC) is about to be revived with a new season of TUC with a record 4 teams starting this evening (and played once every fortnight) at the Rugby Field from 6:20pm. Teams were selected for this competition, so if you want to play you need to talk to John Kristensen.

May 25 The fourth week of games have been played in Autumn League 2009. South American Delight sneak back ahead of Noir Flu at the top of the league table, although Noir Flu have a game in hand and have won every game. Watch out for the clash between the top two teams in the next round.
May 18 The third week of games have been played in Autumn League 2009. Noir Flu take over from South American Delight at the top of the league table, continuing their undefeated run. Updated team lists are also available.
May 17 Congratulations to Jeff Dunn for being the inaugural recipient of the TUA Lifetime Achievement Award at last night's TUA Annual Dinner. Congratulations also to the other major award recipients: Matt Smith, Volunteer of the Year Award; and Masni Bennett, the Black and Blue Award. There were a number of minor awards presented as well - more details on these will follow shortly. Thanks to Ash Martens for organising this dinner.
May 12 The second week of games have been played in Autumn League 2009. South American Delight were the early league leaders after two wins in the first week, and they retain this lead after the second week, even with their loss this week to the undefeated Noir Flu (who have one game in hand). April 26 Congratulations to Shavawn Donoghue for winning the Rob Hancock Award, as announced after the finals of the Australian Ultimate Championships in Perth today. The Rob Hancock Award is presented by the national Association for outstanding contribution to flying disc sports. The Award is our most prestigious form of recognition, and, in a sport where, thanks to self-refereeing and the Spirit of the Game, means we're all contributing all the time, to receive it is really something very very special. Congratulations also to Felix Kennedy who won the MVP (Most Valuable Player) award at Nationals in the Open division. Rumour has it that Bush came 9th in the women's division.
April 20 Best of luck to all those players going to the Australian Ultimate Championships in Perth this weekend. There are Tasmanian players playing with Bush in the Women's division and Fear and Sweet Chilly in the Open division. In fact Bush is a Tasmanian team, with just a few interstate pickups to make up the numbers. Tasmanian exports, Rachel and Asher Gentle will be playing for their adopted Canberra teams.
April 16 Tickets are still on sale for the TUA Annual Dinner, the premier social event of the TUA year, to be held on Saturday 16th May 2009 at the Atrium, Catch Restaurant on the Hobart Waterfront from 7pm (for pre-dinner drinks and canapes) then 7:45pm until 11:30pm (with some kind of after party venue TBA). Dress is Cocktail/semi-formal and tickets ($50) may be purchased from Ash Martens or Mike Baker. Tickets for children are available at the special price of $15 and all tickets sales close on Friday May 8. TUA awards for Volunteer of the Year and Lifetime Membership will be made at this dinner a long with a host of TUA community awards (think up a category and a nominee and submit it to TUA president John Kristensen). Nominations for any of these awards, along with any photos, anecdotes, or biographies to support your nomination should be submitted to John Kristensen by Friday May 8.
April 9 Agent Orange and Blades of Glory were the winners in the grand finals of social division and Div 1 respectively in Summer League 2009. Full results plus the spirit winners and award winners will be revealed soon (hopefully)! Meanwhile, don't forget to register for for Autumn League soon - late fees kick in if you register (or pay) after April 20.
April 7 Registration for Autumn League 2009 is now open.

March

March 31 The semi finals have been played in Summer League 2009 with upsets in 3 out of 4 of these games. The social division sees a grand final between Agent Orange and Slipped Disc with Pull Together playing Wobblies for 3rd place. Three Cheese ended up with the wooden spoon after losing the 5th place playoff against Kermit's Cousins. In Division 1, Blades of Glory play Gingerbread in the grand final, and the top two teams in the minor round HUC and Clog playoff for 3rd place. Don't forget that the finals will be followed by a barbecue and award ceremony following the end of the Div 1 grand final.
March 30 Tickets are now on sale for the TUA Annual Dinner. This is an event open to anyone and everyone who has ever had or who currently has an interest in Tasmanian Ultimate. This is also a chance to thank those tireless souls who run our sport and the first TUA awards will be presented at the dinner (more information on the awards soon). The dinner will be held on Saturday 16th May 2009 at the Atrium, Catch Restaurant on the Hobart Waterfront from 7pm (for pre-dinner drinks and canapes) then 7:45pm until 11:30pm (with some kind of after party venue TBA). March 24 The seventh week of games have been played in Summer League 2009. The social division has a 3 week finals system, and results went according to rankings in the final ladder with the top 4 teams through to the semifinals, with Pull Together due to play Agent Orange and Slipped Disc facing Wobblies. Three Cheese and Kermit's Cousins will play off for the wooden spoon. In Division 1, HUC finished the minor round as league leaders and will play a semi-final against 4th placed Blades of Glory next week, with second place Clog facing 3rd placed Gingerbread in the other semi-final (see the final minor round Division 1 league table here).
March 20 Last night's AGM for the Tasmanian Ultimate Association resulted in the following people being elected to the board: President: John Kristensen; Vice-President: Jemery Day; Secretary: Masni Bennett; Treasurer: Felix Kennedy. A big congratulations to Maz and Felix, the two new members of the board, and a big thank you should go to Joe Boyer and Shavawn Donoghue for all their efforts over the last 2 years as Secretary, and 6 years as Treasurer, respectively. The minutes for both meetings are now available on the TUA meetings page. The next TUA meeting will be on Tuesday April 7 at a venue to be decided.
March 18 The sixth round of games have been played in Summer League 2009 with Slipped Disc holding on to the league lead in the Social Division (see the full Social Division league table here) and with Pull Together swapping places with Agent Orange in second position and getting a second chance in the three week final series which starts on Monday. The top 4 teams in this division are separated by three points after the completion of minor round games. In Division 1, HUC strengthened their lead at the top of the ladder (see the full Division 1 league table here). Division 1 has one more round of minor round games.
March 16 Congratulations to Bush who improved one place on their seeding to end up in 3rd place out of the 5 teams in the women's division at the Southern Australian Ultimate Championships, won spirit in their division and qualified for the Australian Ultimate Championships and to the Tassie Tiggers who held their seeding and ended up in 7th place out of 9 teams in the open division and won a wild card entry to the Australian Ultimate Championships. Hopefully both teams will be able to make it to Perth for Nationals in April.
March 13 There will be a one week break in the free skills and training sessions being run on Monday evenings from 5:30-6pm for Social League players and from 6:30-7pm for Div 1 players (as players recover from the Southern Australian Ultimate Championships). If you are playing league and would like to learn more about the game and improve your skills and technique, feel free to come along for some coaching sessions run by Huddy Fuller, but wait until Monday March 23. Best of luck to the Tassie Tiggers (seeded 8th out of 10 teams) and Bush (seeded 4th out of 6 teams) who are both playing at the Southern Australian Ultimate Championships in Ballarat on the weekend.
March 4 The fifth round of games have been played in Summer League 2009 with Slipped Disc taking over the league lead from Pull Together after winning the top of the table match in the Social Division (see the full Social Division league table here). Agent Orange snuck into second position following a tie in their game. The top 5 teams in this division are still only separated by three points. In Division 1, Clog slipped to second position after a tied game, allowing HUC to reclaim the league lead by a single point (see the full Division 1 league table here). The league takes a break for a public holiday and will resume on Monday March 16.
March 2 Congratulations to Steve Wright, Jason Wong, Ian Tait and Chris Mrzyk who have been awarded TUA development grants to help fund their trip to the Southern Australian Ultimate Championships as first time representatives of the Tassie Tiggers. Best of luck to both the Tiggers and to Bush at this tournament.

February 25 The fourth round of games have been played in Summer League 2009 with Pull Together maintaining their lead in the Social Division (see the full Social Division league table here) following a tie in their game against third placed Agent Orange. There are still only 3 points separating the top 5 teams in this division. In Division 1, Clog maintained their place at the top of the league table despite losing to last placed Blades of Glory (see the full Division 1 league table here).
February 23 The AFDA has just announced that the Tasmanian Ultimate Association will host Mixed Nationals in Hobart, October 10-12 2009. Congratulations to Shavawn Donoghue for putting together the successful bid and for putting her hand up to direct this tournament.
February 20 The TUA committee has decided to open up the latest round of TUA development grants. If you have never played the Southern Australian Ultimate Championships (also known as "Regionals") before (either for Tasmania or for another state or in another regional qualifier), you wish to play for Bush or the Tiggers for the first time, you are looking to develop your skills and you want to give something back to ultimate in Tasmania when you return, check out the application details on the new skills page. As time is tight (to book tickets to travel), applications can be submitted immediately. A decision on all applications received by February 27 will be made by March 3 or earlier.
February 18 Free skills and training sessions are now being run on Monday evenings from 5:30-6pm for Social League players and from 6:30-7pm for Div 1 players. If you are playing league and would like to learn more about the game and improve your skills and technique, feel free to come along for some coaching sessions run by Huddy Fuller.

In Division 1, another top of the ladder battle between saw Clog take the victory and the top spot in the league table from HUC (see the full Division 1 league table here). A preliminary league schedule and initial team lists are now available.
February 16 Congratulations to Ash Martens who is the first Tasmanian Ultimate player to be selected for the Australian team for World Games which will travel to Kaohsiung, Taiwan in July to compete in the 6 team tournament. This team is made up of 13 players (7 men and 6 women), so competition for selection to this team is very intense. See this article in Trash Talk for more information.
February 5 The second round of games have been played in Summer League 2009 with Pull Together taking a clear lead with 2 wins from two games in the Social Division (see the full Social Division table here) and still with two teams tied on points at the top of Division 1 (see the full Division 1 league table here), but with HUC maintaining their the lead on a tie breaker. Hopefully a full league schedule and team lists will be available soon - but in the meantime - expect the league to take a break on all remaining public holiday Mondays (there may be pickup or training games on these days). The next games will be played on Monday February 16.

January 30 The next TUA committee meeting will be held on Thursday February 19 at the Duke, 192 Macquarie Street, Hobart (corner of Macquarie and Barrack Streets).
January 29 The minutes of the last TUA meeting are now available on the TUA meetings page. The next TUA committee meeting will be held on Thursday January 29 at the Duke, 192 Macquarie Street, Hobart (corner of Macquarie and Barrack Streets).
January 27 The first round of games have been played in Summer League 2009 with only one point separating the top 4 teams in Social League (see the full Social League table here) with the imaginatively named Team 6 taking the lead on a tiebreaker and two teams tied on points at the top of Division 1 (see the full Division 1 league table here), but with HUC also taking the lead on a tie breaker. Hopefully a full league schedule and team lists will be available soon. If you still want to play this league (in either division) and are not on a team already, talk to League Organisers Michael and Pat Dunne.
January 18 The Come 'n' Try session is on this Monday, January 19. New and more experienced players a more than welcome to come along and have a throw. For more information, check out the Summer League 2008 page.

Registration for Summer League 2008 is also still open. If you pay and register before January 19, you can avoid paying the late fee.
